Team Nadi Primary Schools Athletics squad received a major boost from a local company to prepare for the Zone meet, which gets underway at Churchill Park, Lautoka, today.
Ram Bhajo Supermarket director Rajnil Kumar handed the $4000 sponsorship to the Team Nadi at the Blue Light Hotel in Nadi on Wednesday.
“This is our gesture of social responsibility to give back to the children,” Kumar said.
“We know that these kids are great athletes and it is time to rally behind them and develop athletes from grassroots level.”
Kumar said the company has been supporting other sports but always kept a low profile.
The parents’ association president Samisoni Vugakoto said this is a great boost to prepare a team to compete in the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics competition scheduled at the HFC Bank Stadium, Suva, from November 28-29.
He said 19 schools would be part of the Nadi Zone compared to last year’s seven public and two private schools.
“This year promises to be even more thrilling compared to last year as Nadi made a mark in the nationals last year. We aim for a triumphant return,” he said.
“We expect almost 3000 students and 66 officials made of students, teachers, and medic personnel.”
Vugakoto thanked the company, Nani’s Restaurant, and officials from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces’ Blackrock Peacekeeping and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Camp for their valuable support in making the event possible.
