Lautoka Stars to play for Vani

“I have a very young side since most of the players are in their early 20s and a few girls have got experience while others are getting valuable experience in the competition.”

Lautoka Stars has set their sights in winning tomorrow’s FinanceHub Super League netball grand-final against defending champions Suva Swifts IGA at the FNU Gym.

The driving force behind the Stars is to win and honour their fallen team-mate Vani Ratudradra who died in a road accident on September 29.

Lautoka Netball Association president Dorothy Prasad said they were surprised after being informed by Netball Fiji that they have made the grand-final.

“I know Suva is a good team, but we have good players too and we look forward to playing another game with Suva,” Prasad said.

“Lately we lost Vani Ratudradra and we were in grief at that time, but the girls’ morale has been great and they are looking forward to the final on Saturday.”

She said they hope to perform to their best and try to win the competition.

“We like to dedicate it to Vani. It’s been an honour for us to play in the final and we’ll play for her on Saturday.

“We just need to improve on our game time and how we play in the court as we’ll try to better our communication.”

Prasad said their biggest strength in the competition is the support shown by their stakeholders.

“We have a few stakeholders that have come in to encourage the girls during training.

“I have a very young side since most of the players are in their early 20s and a few girls have got experience while others are getting valuable experience in the competition.”

Prasad said the players’ are confident and are eager to play in the final.

“We would like everybody to come out in numbers and cheer for the Lautoka team at the FNU Gym.

“The presence of our supporters would be a big boost and motivation for our girls and who knows we might win.”

Prasad said the players have learned from their mistakes in their last outing against Suva.

“We know what we’re going to do this time and we’re hoping that the girls do their best,” she added.
