WPG thanks ADRA for upgrading Titiana sch ablution block

THE Western Provincial Government (WPG) has thanked the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Solomon Islands for the quality upgrade of dilapidated ablution block at Titiana Community School.

The school comprises both a primary and secondary division.

The ablution upgrade project was fully funded by ADRA Australia and was implemented by ADRA Solomon Islands under the Turn on the Tap (TOTT) Project.

The official handover ceremony was held at the school last Wednesday and it saw the attendance of the school board members and staff and students who expressed their appreciation to ADRA Solomon Islands for the upgraded toilet block.

The upgrade works commenced in May and were completed in June. The JK Mabuzu Rural Training Centre (RTC) Carpentry School in West Gizo was contracted to carry out the work under an agreement with the ADRA TOTT Project and the school.

Speaking at the event, the WPG Minister for Health and Medical Services, Kenneth George encouraged staff and students to take good care of the new toilets.

“This is an important project, implemented specifically for your use.

“I urge all of you, including the surrounding communities, to respect these facilities and maintain them so they can continue to serve future generations,” Minister George said.

Minister George suggested that the school allocate part of its budget for the upkeep of the facilities, including the provision of toilet paper, detergents, soaps, as well as sanitary products for girls.

He urged ADRA to extend such support to other schools across the province.

“To ADRA, I encourage you to consider extending similar support to other schools across the Western Province to ensure equitable access to such facilities.”

Deputy Principal Dennis Doro Narakana thanked ADRA Solomon Islands for the renovations.

“We have long struggled with the lack of proper ablution facilities, which made things difficult for our students.

‘’Today, we are truly grateful to ADRA SI for upgrading our rundown toilet blocks, giving our students access to clean and proper toilets,” Mr Narakana said.

United Church Education Authority rep Davies Pitavoqa expressed appreciation to ADRA for the financial support.

“We are very thankful to ADRA Australia and ADRA SI for funding this important project.

“We recognize the hard work and commitment that went into its successful completion and we truly appreciate this contribution to our school and our students,” Mr Pitavoqa said.

ADRA Solomon Islands Director Leyn Gantare emphasized the importance of maintaining the facilities for the benefit of students’ health.

“I urge school leaders and students to keep the facility clean, ensuring its long-term use and sustainability.”
