Gizo Police in Western Province are gearing up for the province’s second appointed day and the festive season next month.
Police officers conducted a joint operation with the Correctional Service of the Solomon Islands (CSSI) over the weekend as part of the preparation for the two events.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province (WP), Superintendent Wilken Miriki, said they have started the police operations last weekend targeting nightclubs, black markets, and crime hotspots.
“Wnd we are pleased with the overall behaviour of the people of Gizo for a peaceful weekend.”
PPC Miriki said, police are preparing for the two events, and they are expecting an increase in the number of people who will be here during this period of time.
“With the celebrations accompanying this time, our priority is the safety of our people.
“Apart from the normal daily shift, officers in other departments will form part of the team who will be working around the clock to ensure citizens are able to celebrate in a safe environment and peacefully. We will come out in good numbers for this festive season,” said PPC Miriki.
A reminder to all: everyone will be travelling between islands during this festive season and police wish to remind everyone that safety is paramount. Please observe the weather and have basic lifesaving equipment before travelling.
