Cabinet Minister Mosese Bulitavu has lambasted Sanjay Kirpal for his “betrayal” in relation to voting on the Constitution Amendment Bill 2025.
He said no amount of justification and damage control will change people’s view on Sanjay Kirpal’s betrayal.
“He had supported the suspension motion last week. On Tuesday morning at 9am in our meeting he assured the Hon. Prime Minister that he will vote for the Bill at second reading to enable a Special committee of Parliament to take the Bill around for public consultations,” said Mr Bulitavu.
“He also confirmed that he will have to decide whether to vote for or against the Constitution Amendment Bill 2025 at third reading after public consultations.”
“He cannot say now that the process that was followed did not ensure that the voices of the people will be heard.”
“He left without coming back to us to say that he had changed his mind like Hon. Rinesh Sharma who came back on Monday after speaking to his dad in the weekend to relay his change in stance.”
Mr Bulitavu added MP Rinesh Sharma came back “clean and openly sharing his dad’s reservation that we respected it given his still young in politics.”
“He (Kirpal) did not inform Parliament that he as on sick leave prior to the vote on Tuesday.”
“He deliberately evaded the vote, and, in the evening, he was hosting the Opposition at his home for a grog celebration.”
“Hon. Sanjay Kirpal must be ashamed of himself given he now regrets that he could not keep his words.”
