The West Coast Eagles board has met for what the club has called an “informal discussion” on Monday morning as speculation about the coach’s immediate future continues.
The meeting took place at chairman Paul Fitzpatrick’s home. The club released a statement shortly afterwards.
“The club remains firm on its position that no decisions have been made around the future of any staff members and that none of those key decisions will be made until after the season,” it says.
“Our club is focused on celebrating the careers of three champions – Shannon Hurn, Luke Shuey and Nic Naitanui – at our final match of the season against Adelaide at Optus Stadium on Saturday night.”
WAtoday understands a formal decision on coach Adam Simpson’s future with the club will be made after the final game of this season and that he will not continue into next season.
West Coast triumphed at Marvel Stadium on the weekend to lift themselves off the bottom of the ladder for the first time since May 21.
It was just the Eagles’ fifth victory in their past 48 games.
West Coast will avoid claiming the club’s second wooden spoon if North Melbourne fail to beat Gold Coast in Hobart next week.
The Eagles had been in the box-seat to snare Harley Reid, this year’s nominal No.1 draft pick, for most of the season as they occupied the bottom of the table.
