We need to be collaborating and communicating a bit more in terms of what is happening in the space of Netball Fiji and ensuring that our districts are kept up to date.
A Special General Meeting (SGM) will take place to review the Netball Fiji constitution.
This was confirmed to SUNsports by Netball Fiji president RubyAnn Sorovaki following the Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Suva’s Tanoa Plaza, last Saturday.
However, the date for the SGM will be confirmed later.
The remit was moved by Suva Netball Association (SNA).
Sorovaki indicated there were a lot of discussions and sharing of ideas on important matters regarding the sport.
Issues questioned by districts included levies, development and the review of the constitution.
Sorovaki said the matters were handled professionally.
“An important part was information sharing which I think is becoming a major issue with us and we all agreed,” she said.
“We need to be collaborating and communicating a bit more in terms of what is happening in the space of Netball Fiji and ensuring that our districts are kept up to date.
“A lot of that misinformation causes them to pose questions when really there is a solution already where we’ve worked on it and it’s been handled,” she said.
Sorovaki added there were lengthy discussions on development programmes and the performance of the Fiji Pearls on what could be done to change the dynamics around.
“There is a lot of work to be done in that space but it’s not going to be resolved overnight.
“There’s are lot of contributing factors and the presidents’ were made aware what they need to be doing to ensure that the Pearls are performing well. We are working together on the other things that are related to their performance.”
She also confirmed that Netball Fiji’s financials was passed at the AGM.
Sorovaki added: “The request went out to presidents’ was to always ensure that when they’re not sure about anything to always consult.
‘We’ve decided to go forward in that manner that everyone will come and ask questions to those that are able to resolve the issue f they have an issue.”
SNA president Alumeci Sachs said it was unfortunate that time was not on their side to discuss their remit.
“The remit actually, we’ll have a vote from each president’s that will review the constitution,” she said.
“Right now we want good governance and a constitution review to benefit all district presidents in Fiji.”
Nasinu president Mere Rauluni backed Suva’s remit.
“I’m just happy about what Suva brought up about the constitution.
“We the presidents have members but we’re counted out during votes.”
Salote Dorothy Prasad, president of Lautoka Netball is adamant that changes would be made to the constitution.
“It’s been a fruitful meeting. All districts raised their concern to Netball Fiji and we’re trying to make a solution for all the problems we have raised.
“I feel that Netball Fiji will adhere what we council member have said for the betterment of netball.
“We’re going to have an SGM to review the constitution to suit NF and the council’s as well,” she added.
