While the celebrations were mostly good-natured, a police spokesman said there were pockets of disorder in Ōtāhuhu and some traffic congestion.
There were a handful of arrests for fighting and traffic offences.
In one instance, police stopped a vehicle at a Mobil service station, leading to a scuffle with those inside the vehicle. At least a dozen officers were involved in making arrests.
