Voters of West Guadalcanal Constituency will got to poll tomorrow – Wednesday 4th June for their much awaited by-election.
Over the past days voters have been gearing up to cast their ballots for what is to be a significant event.
Polling stations across the Constituency from Savulei, Tangarare and Wanderer Bay Ward have been preparing to accommodate hundreds of voters eager to have their voices heard.
Many voters see the by-election as an opportunity to bring fresh leadership to the Constituency, especially following the passing of their previous representative – Late Moses Garu.
Six candidates are contesting the seat including a former Member of Parliament (MP) Anthony Veke.
Andrenda Luzile, a young voter from Marasa, emphasized the importance of voting for a good leader with good qualities that will help people in terms of development, especially those living in isolated parts of the Constituency, to have access to services provided to them by their representatives.
“We need to vote for leaders who are active in our communities, who are Creative and innovative and can provide real services to the weak and the vulnerable people in our society through major developments” he stated.
He urged all voters to make good decisions on who they think is the best candidate for the parliamentary seat and, with uttermost respect, vote wisely.
Some voters express confidence in the Solomon Islands Electoral Commission, citing it’s effort to ensure a smooth and transparent process, including training election officials and preparing polling stations across the Constituency.
However, some voters remain sceptical about certain aspects of the voting process and logistical challenges such as accessibility to polling stations and the efficiency of vote counting in the election.
Despite these concerns, there’s a sense of civic duty among voters to bring valid identifications and follow outlined procedures to facilitate a transparent and efficient election.
As the election approaches, Community leaders continue to encourage voter participation, emphasizing the importance of informed decision-making and active engagement in the democratic process.
Apart from West Guadalcanal Constituency, Paripao Ward in North East Central Guadalcanal will also conduct is provincial ward by-election this Wednesday.
