Volunteers clean up Kukum field ahead of Christafari concert

A voluntary clean-up took place on Saturday around Kukum Field in East Honiara, the venue that will host the world-renowned gospel reggae band Christafari on Sunday night.

The concert is part of the band’s “You Are Loved” Melanesian tour.

Speaking to Solomon Star, Alisha Mua—one of the local coordinators for the Christafari Solomon Islands tour shared that about 26 volunteers, mostly youth from various Christian denominations, came together for the clean-up effort.

“This group of volunteers is mostly made up of youth groups from churches around Honiara and I  truly appreciate everyone who turned up today we had a really great day,” said Ms Mua.

The young volunteers began their day at Henderson Airport, where they welcomed the gospel band upon arrival.

Clean up on Saturday

“We even surprised the band this morning (Saturday) when they landed. It was amazing to see these young people willingly giving their time and energy to support the success of these two upcoming concerts in Honiara,” she added.

Christafari began their Melanesian tour in Vanuatu, performing two spectacular shows at Saralana Park in Port Vila and one in North Efate.

They arrived in Honiara earlier on Saturday and are set to perform two shows at Kukum Field on June 8 and 15, as well as in Auki on June 12 and 13.

Ms Mua also encouraged the public to attend the free event on Sunday evening.

“If you don’t have any plans this Sunday, I urge you to come along, the concert is free and will be filled with uplifting music and the word of God. Bring your friends and families, it’s going to be a beautiful evening.”
