Vandalism at Munda airport terminal concerning

THERE is growing call for the responsible authorities to employ full time security officers to look after the Munda international terminal premises in Western Province.

The appeal was issued after increasing incidents of vandalism at Munda terminal.

It was revealed that careless behaviors and attitude of some young people who tend to destroy private properties and public properties painted a sad scenario.

Recently one of the runway lights was knocked down to the ground.

Last month vandals were caught on CCTV footage defacing an airport notice near the airport terminal.

The footage showed two individuals from another province deliberately peeling off a notice on littering.

According to a Munda resident the Munda Police have since arrested the two suspects, who are currently in custody.

“This incident has sparked urgent calls for increased security around the airport.

“This displays a lack of respect and ownership towards our new International Airport Terminal that we should take pride in,” the concerned resident said.

The resident added its sad that today many of youths are losing the sense of respect.

“Parents must teach their children to understand what is right and not right to follow and to be a good citizen of our country.”

Local traditional leaders are also urging young men and youth to refrain from loitering at the airport without valid reasons.

They have also called on day visitors from outside the area to avoid alcohol consumption in the township.
