Nakasi High School has regained their senior boys’ 1500 metres gold medal, which they lost earlier yesterday.

This was confirmed last night by Fiji Finals meet manager Savenaca Muamua last night.

NHS long distance runner Veresa Valemei won the race on Thursday night beating last year’s champion Peni Bulikiobo of Jai Narayan College.

However, he was not awarded the gold during the medal presentation ceremony.

This was because of an appeal by JNC claiming that Valemei stepped out of the track and ran on the inside.

The decision was made by track referee Chris Waqa.

His ruling was based on evidence to award the gold to Bulikiobo after clarification on the photo finish and videos from the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation broadcaster.

However this was overturned after Nakasi High School team management lodged an official complaint.

“The decision of the jury validates the result from yesterday (Thursday),” Muamua said.

“The process is such that only the jury can overturn the decision as long as it validates the results according to the footage that they have seen.”

Muamua added the decision was overturned based on that; “The child was nudged out of the race unintentionally and re-joined the race and came first.”

Meanwhile, the bronze medal was won by Natabua High School’s Savenaca Nomokolo. He clocked a time of 4:22.14.
