The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will officially launch the SolTech- Building Green Skills Training programme on Monday, January 26, at Local Fusion, Solomon Island National University (SINU) School of Tourism and Hospitality Building.
Funded by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and implemented by United Nations Children‘s Fund (UNICEF) in partnership with SINU’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) division, the programme will focus on training young people in basic photovoltaic standalone solar systems.
The initiative aims to strengthen green skills development and expand inclusive employment opportunities for young people in country, with a strong focus on empowering young women to participate and lead in the renewable energy sector.
Technical guidance will be provided by the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification (MMERE) to ensure alignment with national energy standards and priorities.
Ward Development Committees will also support the programme by facilitating community engagement and trainee participation.
Representatives from Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), UNICEF, Solomon Islands National University (SINU) – TVET Division, Ministry of Mines, Ward Development Committees and Programme trainees and partners are expected to attend the launch.
