The central and western part of the country this evening experienced thunderstorms and multiple lightning which lasted about an hour.
This is due to intense heat earlier this afternoon, the Solomon Islands Meteorological Service (SIMS) explained in a statement on Wednesday night.
Honiara city also had its share of the lightening and loud bang from the thunders causing fear amongst young children.
“Thunderstorms and lightning clouds were observed this evening at 8pm on January 22, 2025, particularly over the central region and parts of the Western province.
“This is due to the heat experienced earlier in the afternoon and current atmospheric instability,” the statement from the Meteorology office said.
Lightning and thunder subsided more than an hour later around 10pm.
The weather office said, the thunderclouds are slowly moving towards the southern parts of the country.
“However, areas in the Western, Central, and Guadalcanal regions can expect showers, along with lightning and thunder, for the time being,” the statement said.
The country is currently within the cyclone period which is from November to April.
The weather office had warned the public to remain vigilant.
