District teams are only limited to sign three players from the region or overseas in a season.

Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said yesterday as the transfer window opened on January 1.

“Each district/club can only recruit three foreign players per season,” he said.

Solomon Islands and Vanuatu players were often signed to clubs in the country every season.

These players over the years included Solomon Islands national captain Marlon Tahioa who played for a few clubs while studying at the University of the South Pacific at Laucala Campus.

Yusuf indicated that no player in the Digicel Fiji Premier League (DPL) is paid a salary.

He said that none of the players either were semi-professional in the country.

“All our players involved in Fijian leagues are amateur.

“No one is paid a salary, they only receive expenses for trainings,” Yusuf added.

Meanwhile, national defender Gabiriele Matanisiga was back training with the Rewa side yesterday. He was cleared last season to play for Wellignton Olympic in New Zealand last season.

Rewa football club in a Facebook post said Matanisiga was back and would be a great impact for the Delta Tigers.

Rewa are the holders of the Digicel Fiji Premier League title.
