Apia, Samoa – 19 December 2024 – Three new lawyers were admitted to the legal bar yesterday as barrister and solicitors.
They are Fitilagi Ioane Fa’anunu, Raewyn Laumatafiafia Imelda Madeline Fong and Minerva Antonia Peters.
Raewyn and Minerva both graduated from Auckland University while Fitilagi from the University of the South Pacific (USP).
Presiding over the admission was Chief Justice Satiu Simativa Perese who congratulated them for their achievements and urged them to place God above all.
“You follow today in the footsteps of many lawyers before you and now it’s your turn to serve in the Supreme and District Court of Samoa,” said CJ Perese.
He noted that Minerva graduated with honours at Auckland University and was employed at a top law firm in New Zealand.
Fitilagi who graduated with a Masters in Law from USP have some outstanding references in leadership, hard work, dedication and have delivered high quality of legal service.
Raewyn, who also graduated from Auckland University was recently admitted to the New Zealand bar.
“Note in your admission that you wear a black gown you are now entitled to,” he said.
“You are now officers of this court and it is your duty to uphold the rule of law. What you make of yourself as a lawyer depends on what you do with your talents and it will define you as a lawyer,” he said.
The challenge for them to be truly accomplished lawyers is their efforts, perseverance, good character and natural ability.
“I ask you to take pride in your legal work and strive to achieve the highest standards. It is also important to foster a good work balance that takes time, experience and patience. I ask you to maintain the highest ethical standards in your dealings with people who seek your advice and services,” he said.
Raewyn and Fitilagi are now attached to the Office of the Attorney General while Miverna starts her legal service at her mother Elizabeth Peters law office.
