“Roy has accepted the offer to fight Winston since New Zealand and Australian boxers are thinking twice of coming over to fight him,” Chand said.

Super welterweight boxer Roy Ser in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

The man who is dubbed the ‘Tsunami’ Roy Ser is coming over to fight Fiji super welterweight champion Winston Hill at Subrail Park, Labasa, on August 10.

Ser beat John Ume of Papua New Guinea to win the gold medal for Vanuatu at the 2017 Pacific Mini Games.

He had trained in China and earned the nickname ‘Tsunami’ in 2018 after he knocked out Rakuro Dauvavana in the third round at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

This was confirmed to SUNsports yesterday by South Pacific Boxing Promotions promoter Fred Chand indicating that the fight would be an eight-round contest fight.

“Roy has accepted the offer to fight Winston since New Zealand and Australian boxers are thinking twice of coming over to fight him,” Chand said.

The main bout is for the vacant Fiji lightweight title where Umbayd Haider (formerly known as Nathan Singh) is fighting in front of his people against Saimoni Ratu of Naitasiri.

Chand said the fight is expected to be a thriller.

Haider recently won the Fiji super featherweight title after beating Krishnil Mudaliar on a technical knockout (TKO) in the eighth round. Last year, Ratu fought Mudaliar in a contest where he knocked him out in the first round.

Chand told SUNsports that the SPBP programme would be officially launched in Suva on Thursday where the list of bouts would be released.

“We’ve some more title fights and the good news there will be boxers from Vanua Levu taking part, which is a big boost to the Northern division.”

He also confirmed that former Fiji title holders of Nat Ledua, Buli Raiwalui, Solomone Catarogo and Tevita Vakalalabure have been assisting him during his fact finding mission.

“Tevita Vakalalabure’s son is turning pro in this programme as well,” he added.
