An international grill with a distinctly local flavour.

The Grill at The International is the kind of restaurant Don Draper might go to for a three-martini lunch.

Mid-century modern enthusiasts will delight in the curvature of the terrace and the glossy, mirrored interiors which brings together lipstick-red banquettes with cascades of yolk-yellow curtain.

While the inspiration may be global, the menu is distinctly local, with culinary director Joel Bickford seeking out the finest produce from each state. A crayfish cocktail ditches the shrimp for Southern rock lobster dressed in a light salad cream, while WA black marron (an absolute treat in these waters) is split and grilled in a turmeric-hued vadouvan butter.

Steaks dominate the grill section of the menu (try the CopperTree retired dairy cow), but you’ll also find lamb chops, duck neck, and even suckling pig saddle on the coals.

Crystal serving-ware and embossed silver platters lend the kind of panache you’d expect from the Shell House team.

Old and new world wines come together on the drinks list, but it’s the martini that feels right here. Order three if you like.
