Leading from the front in his debut S-League season, Ghupo FC forward Jeff Teika has been turning heads almost every weekend with his outstanding performances.
With three goals in four matches, Teika’s most memorable contribution so far was a brace against Laugu United—securing Ghupo FC’s first-ever win in the S-League and marking his name into the club’s history.
Speaking to Star Sports about his S-League journey, the 23-year-old Arts Foundation student at the University of the South Pacific (USP) said, he has gained a lot from the experience of competing in the country’s top-tier league.
“Honestly, I’ve learnt so much from playing in the S-League. Having previously competed in the Honiara leagues and the Solomon Cup, I can say this is the highest level I’ve played at so far. I’m excited to continue learning as the season progresses.”
Inspired by his football icon, Cristiano Ronaldo, Teika is steadily making his own mark in Solomon Islands football.
Currently riding a two-game winning streak, Ghupo FC’s number 10 reflected on the team’s recent success and the emotions it brought.
“It was an amazing feeling—my first time experiencing such joy. We worked really hard in training and stuck to the game plan. It just shows that hard work truly pays off. But we know the season is far from over; there’s still a lot to do.”
Coming from a province traditionally known for its rugby roots, Jeff noted that interest in football is now growing among the younger generation back home.
