Former Brumbies, Blues and Highlanders backline utility Iliesa Tanivula believes good discipline and a dominant set-piece play would propel the FIJI Water Flying Fijians through their pool games.
Tanivula, who spent six seasons playing in what was known as the Super 12 competition back then from 1999-2004, said the Fijian Drua players have impressed him a lot.
“They have been in the Super Rugby competition for two years now and they have really stepped up and pairing up with experienced players like Semi Radradra, Josua Tuisova and the guys from Europe, it sure is an exciting time for us fans,” he said.
The former national 7s mentor added that there was a lot of options for the coaching staff in selecting the backline players and stated it was a “good headache”.
“We got the Drua combination of Kalaveti Ravouvou, Masi, Caleb Muntz at first-five, Frank Lomani at halfback plus Selestino Ravutaumada on the wing.
“We got Tuisova and experienced Radradra, so it is a good headache for the selectors but I am banking on the Drua combination.
“We need to be focused on our re-starts, dominate set-piece play and keep our discipline. At the end of the day, what really matters is how much the players really want to win it and if we can get our defence on that line as well, I think we can get through Wales.”
The Yasawa coach said morale of the team as a whole and the players individually is up there following their win against England.
“The win against England was massive and everyone is looking forward to the first game against Wales. We are keeping our fingers crossed and hopefully the boys get out there and perform on the day.
“As fans, we are excited for what the team can do during the World Cup and we ready to cheer them up,” said Tanivula.
