Aiden Taitt from the Islanders basketball team is eager to make his debut in the Vodafone Fiji Cup this weekend.

“I go every morning to do my workouts for two hours at the gym,” he told SUNsports yesterday.

“I’ve been preparing since last week and I’m just trying to get into the mindset and get ready for the Fijian Cup.”

Taitt is originally from Suriname, in northern South America.

“I heard it’s the best competition in Fiji and I want to make an impact. I just want to help my team win and I’m bound to do it.”

Taitt who plays in the point guard position has been playing basketball for 18 years.

“My dad is a basketball coach and he played professionally in the United Kingdom, so I come from a basketball family as we all play basketball,” he said.

“The day I moved to Fiji, I immediately asked do they play basketball here and I signed up to join the team.”

Taitt described Fijians of possessing a strong physicality in their playing style.

“Everybody is passionate about the sport and I really like that. I would advise everybody to come because it’s an amazing experience and I’m expecting a bigger Fiji crowd.”
