Suva rugby head coach Solo Nute will be banking on Police Blue to defend the Suva Rugby Union’s Escott Shield against Navy in the grand-final on Saturday, September 21.

“I’m with the Police team and I hope they do well against Navy,” he said.

“It’ll be a good final in terms of preparation wise as there are no other competitions like the Skipper Cup so the focus now is on the Escott Shield.”

Nute said the Police players should improve their fitness and control their scrums.

“They will need to prioritise game management in order to have more options before scoring points,” he said.

Nute said the Suva team would have its pre-season training in January, next year.

“We just have to see the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) calendar of events and adjust ourselves accordingly,” he said.

“We can see some players coming through the FRU High Performance Unit and the Suva set-up as well.”

Nute is hopeful of recruiting a few Fiji Under-20 players in his squad.

“We will hope to put some experienced and young players together to prepare our depth of pool of players before we select the team for the next Skipper Cup,” he added.
