St. Mary Tanagai Community High School (CHS) in Northwest Guadalcanal held its annual cultural show on Friday to highlight the country’s diverse cultural heritage.
The event was organised based on the theme; ‘Our Culture, Our Identity, Our Strength.’ The day long event was staged at the school hall.
The event showcased a vibrant array of traditional dances, folklore, and songs performed by various ethnic cultural student groups from across the Solomon Islands.
In his opening remarks, Principal James Mapobu emphasized the significance of the theme, stating, “Our Culture is our identity and our strength. It encompasses the arts, customs, beliefs, and values that shape our society.”
He encouraged the students to embrace their culture and pass it on to future generations, noting that cultural shows like this one promote appreciation of one’s roots.
He also acknowledged the hard work of the cultural contestants and participants, thanking the social and cultural committee for their unwavering support in preparing the students for the show.
The event drew hundreds of people, including parents, students, and alumni from North West Guadalcanal, fostering a sense of community and cultural pride.

Some of the guests included; Jimmy Fika, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Culture & Tourism, Francis Aba, Senior Administration Officer of the Ministry of Culture & Tourism, and Mr. Daniel Donua, Chairman of the School Board of Management.
The show was described as a memorable occasion, highlighting the importance of cultural heritage in shaping identity and community strength.
