The 2024 Fiji Spartan APAC Championship and Trifecta concluded yesterday with the events 10km super and 5km sprint obstacle races held in Aviva Farms, Sabeto.
Hundreds of people participated in the races which were held against the backdrop of the Garden of Sleeping Giant’s towering peaks and lush forests.
Participants included seasoned Spartan races from around the world, first-time racers and local teams.
David Dewar who completed the Spartan Super 10km said: “It was an excellent event.
“The 10km was pretty gruelling but it was great to have the support of so many people along the course. Well done to the organizers and Tourism Fiji and sponsors for putting on an epic even against in such a stunning location.”
Susannah Hodson completed the 5km Sprint with a team of friends.
“This was my first Spartan race and it was a great chance to get the whole family involved. The kids loved the kid’s race and I did the 5km. I found it tough going, but it’s a great sense of achievement at the end,” she said.
Hill faces setbacks
Fiji’s champion boxer Winston Hill and Fiji’s ambassador suffered a setback leading to the event. This is because he is still recovering from a hand injury which is still swollen from his last boxing bout in Nadi a few weeks ago.
“I had broken my hand in the last fight, three weeks ago, so this set me back from competing in the races I wanted to do,” he said.
“I still competed in the open division in the 10km and 5 km although there are some Obstacles I was not able to do with my broken hand. I did by-pass and run and have fun.”
Tourism Fiji CEO Brent Hill said, the Spartan Fiji Trifecta kicked off with the 10k night race and we are super excited for what’s for over the weekend.
“The race has attracted athletes and their families from all corners of the world and Fiji,” he said.
Last year, the event contributed over FJD$7.8 million to Fiji’s economy.
“We’re confident that this year will see equal or more impact, all while promoting physical fitness and fun for participants of all ages and showcasing beautiful images of Fiji and adventure around the world.”
