South Vella CPC to recruit new officers

The Community Policing Committee (CPC) in Ward 7, Southeast Vella Constituency Western Province will soon begin recruiting new officers to help maintain peace and order in local communities.
CPC Coordinator Standley Chite Hemi confirmed the plan during an interview with the Solomon Star last week, revealing that a total of 40 individuals will be recruited.
“These will include a mix of former officers as well as many new volunteers, mostly made up of young people from our communities,” Mr. Hemi said.
He explained that the purpose of the recruitment is to strengthen community policing efforts and ensure local settlements are well safeguarded from crime, disturbances, and unlawful activities.
“With the growing number of youths and social challenges in our areas, it’s important we engage our young people in positive roles like this to build responsibility and leadership,” he said.
The recruitment will begin in the coming weeks, with the selection process focusing on individuals who demonstrate strong commitment, discipline, and a willingness to serve their communities voluntarily.
Mr. Hemi added that following the recruitment a new committee will be set up consisting of two parties.
“One Party will focus on operation throughout the communities in Ward 7. This will begin from Parakasi Police Station to Sambora.
“Other patrol operations will be operated in other villages and communities from Southwest zones,’’ Mr. Hemi said.

“Other Party will consist of elders and chief who will oversee arises issues and cases.

“They will decide if the issue will brought to the Police and Law or  it will be settled at the community level,” he said.
He said together we can create safer, united communities if we work hand in hand,” he added.
Meanwhile, the CPC Committee in Southeast Vella is waiting for their new uniform set to arrive with the support and assistance from the Chinese’s Security Law Enforcement.
Once arrived, the uniform set will be collected at the Gizo Police Station.
The CPC has played a crucial role in addressing minor disputes, assisting police in rural patrols, and promoting law and order in remote villages across Southeast Vella.
