SI Suva Mission team meets local students

THE Solomon Islands High Commissioner to Fiji, Joseph Ma’ahanua and his staff met with Solomon Islands students studying at various tertiary institutions in Suva last Wednesday.

High Commissioner Ma’ahanua told Solomon Star that Wednesday night’s meeting was part of an outreach programme to connect with Solomon Islands nationals studying in Fiji, particularly in the Suva region where a majority of the students are attending the University of the South Pacific (USP), Fiji National University (FNU) and other tertiary institutions.

“We used the occasion to share thoughts on expectations of students, urging them to do well in their studies and also to be good representatives of Solomon Islands,” he said.

High Commissioner Ma’ahanua said, they also advised the students to manage their finances well.

He said, it was great catching up with the students.

“It was a good information sharing occasion and for those meet ups with SI students.”

High Commissioner Ma’ahanua thanked the President of the SI Students Association and student leaders for organising the occasion.

During the meeting, they also farewelled and thanked two SI High Commission staff Elizabeth Ofu and Madolyn Yalu for their services and introduced their successors Esther O’Brien and John Liliu.  Ms O’Brien succeeded Yalu as Counsellor, whilst Mr Liliu succeeded as Education Attache.

Ms Ofu and Ms Yalu returned to Honiara over the weekend.
