The leadership and people of Shortland Islands Constituency, Western Province have extended their heartfelt appreciation to the Government of the People’s Republic of China for its ongoing support and generous donations.
Speaking to Solomon Star, the Constituency Project Officer (CPO) Jonathan Levo confirmed that a fresh batch of supplies was officially handed over by the Chinese Embassy on Wednesday, aimed at boosting local development and improving the livelihoods of people in remote communities.
The donated items include: 100 solar lights, 80 solar flashlights, 50 school bags, 144 notebooks.
“These items, though simple, will go a long way in supporting families and school children, especially those in areas without access to reliable electricity and learning resources,” CPO Jonathan Levo said.
He added that the support reflects the strengthening relationship between the Solomon Islands and China, and demonstrates China’s commitment to supporting grassroots development across constituencies.
“We sincerely thank the Government of the People’s Republic of China and His Excellency Mr. Cai Weiming, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Solomon Islands, for their generous donations and continuous support,” CPO Levo added.
The CPO further explained that the solar equipment will assist families in rural villages that often rely on kerosene lamps or go without light entirely.
He said, the school supplies will also help ease the burden on struggling parents ahead of the next academic term.
“This is not the first time we have received such assistance from the Chinese Embassy. We value this growing partnership and look forward to more cooperation that directly benefits our people,” he added.
The donations are expected to be distributed across communities in the coming weeks.
Junior Isikeli Vave is the current Member of the Parliament for the Shortland Island constituency who ousted his uncle uncle, Christopher Laore last year and now served as the Minister of Home Affairs.
