Repeka Koroi and Veronika Rabuliwaisavu of Vudibasoga Catholic School in Seaqaqa, Macuata have been awarded full scholarship by Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) High School to pursue further education.

This after their stunning performance during the 2024 Tuckers Ice-Cream Fiji Primary Schools Athlet-ics Championships last month.

Koroi of Korovuli Village, Macuata scooped two gold medals in the Under-14 girls 800 and 1500m final.

Rabuliwaisavu of Lomaloma Vil-lage won gold in Under-13 girls 400 meters final and silver in Under-13 girls 200 meters final.

The duo thanked their coach and teacher, Iosefo Apisai of Nasealevu Village, Macuata.

Apisai said he was proud to have his students gain admission at a Suva-based school where they could invest more effective time in their sporting endeavours.

“They were hostel students and it was easy for me to conduct train-ing along with other students from the beginning of this year,” Apisai said.

“I have implemented a strict time-table and I am proud to say that among the 12 schools in Macuata South we bought the highest medal, which was five gold, three silver and two bronze.”

He thanked the parents for believing in the teachers to look after their children in hostel, enabling them to do well in education and sports.

Repeka, aspiring to become a pri-mary school teacher, was the Year Eight dux of her school.

“I dedicate my achievement to my father, Epeli Balawa and thank him for allowing me to take up the scholarship,” Repeka said.

“My dream is to represent Fiji in the Olympic Games, and I know with the support from Jesus, I can do all things.”

Veronika, 13, is excited to be the first in the family to receive a silver and gold medal and get a scholar-ship to study in Suva.

“My father, a yaqona farmer, is so happy and has given me his blessings to do what I love that is to run on the track,” Veronika said.

“To represent a prestigious school is an honour and I thank the teachers for choosing me.”

Vudibasoga Catholic School head teacher Inoke Biaunisala said he was pleased.

“Last year one female student was selected through such competition to study in Suva and this year the number increased,” Biaunisala said.

“Our aim now for next year is to prepare for students.”

He also thanked the bronze winners Solomone Togoaciri and Ester Natoni; two silver medal recipients Sakapo Lekileki for Under-13 boys 1500 meters and 800 meters finals.

And Grace Vunibola for gold in Under-9 long jump and Rufina Digadai for gold in Under-12 girls 800 metres final.
