Scotland’s 29-26 upset win over the Maori All Blacks last Saturday is now behind them as they brace themselves for a tough encounter against the Flying Fijians at Suva’s HFC Bank Stadium this Saturday.

This was the gist of Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend’s interview as they turn their focus to the Flying Fijians Test match.

The Scots jetted into the country last night with Townsend indicating that they are expecting a much tougher Test match against the Fijians.

“When you come to this side of the world there’s obviously a lot of things you have to deal with, travel, getting over jetlag and we’ve had a hard training week, so I’m just pleased that we showed that effort at the end,” he said.

“We are playing a Fiji team who have some outstanding individuals and are ranked in the top 10 in the world,” he said.

“We will make some changes to the team, but the win (on Saturday) was good that sets us up nicely for the next two games.”

Meanwhile, the Flying Fijians suffered a 21-18 loss to the Wallabies in Newcastle, Australia, yesterday.

The Flying Fijians were unfortunate to lose their 18-14 lead in the 79th minute when Wallabies captain Harry Wilson scored their winning try, which was converted by Ben Donaldson for the win.

The Wallabies had led 14-5 at halftime with tries to hooker Dave Porecki and flanker Fraser McReight. Both tries were converted by Noah Lolesio.

It was right at halftime a poor clearance kick from Tate McDermott was taken by Josua Tuisova who put Simione Kuruvoli through a gap where he linked up with Elia Canakaivata and Jiuta Wainiqolo as they created space for Salesi Rayasi to score a try in the corner. The conversion from Caleb Muntz went wide.

In the second half Fiji narrowed the deficit to 14-8 from Muntz a penalty.

Then they hit the front with flanker Lekima Tagitagivalu scoring a try after an incredible run from Wainiqolo following a line-out inside their own half.

Wainiqolo danced past several Wallabies defenders before breaking into space and then executed a simple off load over his shoulder when he hit the last line of defence to allow Tagitagivalu to dive over the try line in the corner. Muntz converted as Fiji hit the front 15-14 for the first time.

Muntz again extended Fiji’s lead to 18-14 from a penalty before Wilson struck for the Wallabies.
