Schoolboys to tour Australia in September

The Fiji Schoolboys have been invited for an Australia tour at the conclusion of the Vodafone Deans competition.

Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union (FSSRU) president Jone Kanalagi revealed yesterday following the official launch of the Deans and Weet-Bix Raluve competition at Gospel High School, Suva.

He said they would be working closely with Fiji Rugby Union regarding the tour invitation towards the end of September.

Kanalagi added that FSSRU is anticipating this year’s competition to be better than last year.

“There are more than 11,000 boys in the Deans and more than 4,000 girls Raluve competition this year,” he said.

“There are no changes to the format, it’ll be the same format from the last few years but FSSRU is working with FRU and Ministry of Education to ensure our constitution and terms of participation is serving tis purpose as we administer rugby in our secondary schools.

“Last year, the schools lifted at the competition to another standard; we thank the coaches and the managers. We thank the schools for getting in specialist coaches to help develop their teams feature well in our competition last year.

“I believe this year too, we will be expecting our competition to go up another notch because I believe a lot of schools have been preparing well in the season and the results so far in the zone competition is telling us that definitely the finals this year will be an exciting one,” Kanalagi added.

He indicated the zone finals will be held from next week while the Raluve quarterfinal and national play-offs will be held in Suva on August 2.

The Deans quarterfinal will be on August 9.

“There a few new schools from North that are participating this year. We are anticipating the qualifying schools and the top two schools from the boy’s competition to come over for the play-offs with the Southern and Eastern zone,” Kanalagi said.

Kanalagi added there has been an increase in the number of schools participating this year.
