Suva Grammar’s School Viliame Sakiti dedicated his silver medal win in the senior boys shotput to his parents.
He acknowledged their unwavering support in his preparation for the Fiji Secondary School Finals.Sakiti threw a distance of 13.75 meters on Thursday.
“I want to thank God as well for the power and strength in my throw,” he said.
“I want to thank my school as well.”
He also took part in discus today.
Sakiti said traveling from Nadera to school to train every morning trips was a challenge for him during his preparation.
“There’s no bus or taxi around four o’clock in the morning. Another challenge is balancing schoolwork with training,” he said.
“I’m thankful I’ve secured a silver medal.”
Sakiti has set a target to record a personal best in the Mini Pacific Games in Palau.
“As a young athlete, I’ve gained alot of experience in the Coke games representing my school,” he said.
“It’s a big honour to be representing my country and I’m looking forward to the Mini Pacific Games in Palau.”
Sakiti is also an avid rugby and volleyball player.
“I’m looking to take up Engineering as a career after I finish high school as it runs in the family,” he said.
