Look at these noble features! Hagrid’s just five months old – and there are three others just like him at the shelter. Photo: RSPCA ACT.

Canines of the week: The big, floppy puppy posse

No way we could choose just one of our four big, huge-pawed floppy pups, so we’re making them all the Pets of the Week. That’s Hagrid in the pic.

These five-month-olds are mixed breed (mixed with something large), but their mannerisms and composure are what make us think there’s something special going on here.

Sure, their oversized paws and features are adorable, and they still haven’t grown into their bodies, so they have that delightful but clumsy puppy thing going on.

But what you will notice as you walk up our kennel aisles is while most other dogs are barking at you, these four are just chilling out. No stress, no cares, completely calm and relaxed. That’s their demeanour. These are massively cool customers and will make sensational pets.

Buffy

Buffy’s just one of many (many, many) rabbits that would love to start a new life with you. Photo: RSPCA ACT.

Rabbits of the week: All of them!

It’s been well documented that this kitten season has been testing for our shelter, and we have received more puppies than ever in recent months. However, we can’t overlook our rabbit runs, which are also currently at capacity.

There are some really friendly and attractive rabbits here, too; big fluffy girls like Buffy (pictured), for example. She’s very fluffy, friendly and affectionate – a perfect pet for a small family.

Or little Misty, a small pure white lop-eared girl who will start off shy but grow big and brave once her surroundings are consistent and calm.

Misty would likely benefit from another rabbit friend, too, so if you already own a bunny and are prepared for a gradual introduction, Misty could really blossom for you.

Whichever type of rabbit tickles your fancy, we probably have one here for you to adopt.

Pawnotes: Thanks for all your support, Canberra; we have some fabulous news! Last week’s Dog of the Week, German Sheppard Zera, has found a new home, as has our deaf boxer boy, Frank! Bravo, Canberra, bravo.
