National striker and top Oceania football goal scorer Roy Krishna is a sure starter in Fiji’s preparation for the 2026 FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) World Cup Oceania Qualifiers next month.
The Wonder Boy is also Fiji’s most-capped footballer; he has been representing Fiji for 16 years now.
“We’ve been preparing well as we had the Tri-Nations series against Solomon Islands and Hong Kong China,” Fiji Football chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said yesterday.
Fiji beat Solomon Islands and drew 1-all with Hong Kong.
The Bula Boys depart for Papua New Guinea (PNG) on November 9 for two matches.
“Roy Krishna will be flying in on October 6 and play on October 10,” he said.
“He’ll fly back to India on October 12 and then re-join the team in PNG. Krishna, turned 37 in August, still plays for his Odisha club side in the Indian Super League.
Experienced players Samuela Kautoga, Setareki Hughes, Akuila Mateisuva and Krishna are blending in with the youths according to Yusuf.
Yusuf said coach Rob Sherman and team management will set-up a game plan against the Solomon Islands side.
“Every team has a good chance, and everybody has been preparing well,” he said.
“We got confidence in this team and hopefully we start with the win against Solomon Islands.” World Cup Qualifiers Fixtures Fiji v Solomon Islands – October 10 (HFC Bank Stadium Fiji); Fiji v Papua New Guinea November 14 (PNG Football Stadium); Fiji v New Caledonia November 17 (PNG Football Stadium).
