Fiji Airways Fijian men’s squad member Rauto Vakadranu has advised rugby players that no one is above the law during this festive season.

The 27-year-old corrections officer indicated that a lot of temptation and trouble happens during Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The Namosi man who played in the Vancouver and Los Angeles SVNS series leg this year is eyeing a return to the main team.

He also featured for the national side at the Mataso 7s last month.

“My goal for 2025 is to play for another leg,” Vakadranu said.

“I’m leaving everything to God; there’s a tight competition in the team and your individual work says a lot about your fitness.

“It’s quite tough to secure your spot with the number of talented of players in the squad.”

Despite being the lone Wardens player in the current extended squad, Vakadranu is grateful to the green and gold side for always bringing out the best in him.

“I watched Wardens player like Josua Vakurinabili when I was in high school and it’s just a different feeling to play with him in the same team,” he said.

“Wardens rugby have always made me lift my performance in every local tournament and it brought me back to the squad after I was dropped by the previous coach.

Vakadranu added: “We set our own goals to achieve every year and it’s this time of the year is when people are tempted to stray from it. As rugby players, we are old enough to know what is wrong and right so do what you know is best for you and the country.”

The Fiji 7s squad is on Christmas and New Year break and will resume camp in January. They will also feature in the McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s on January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.
