Richmond Methodist High School from Kadavu is back at the Fiji Secondary School Finals athletics competition this year.

They last took part at the national championship in 2023.

Coach Aminiasi Raitekiteki said they have set a target for their 19 athletes to qualify for the finals in their respective events.

“We are planning for a three year program, this is our first year trying to reach the finals,” he said.

“Next year we will try to fight for the medals.”
Raitekiteki said they faced obstacles in their journey to the Fiji finals.

“We did our fundraising and we traveled in the boat around the island trying to get fundraise our budget to the games in various villages,” he said.

“Finance was our biggest challenge but we managed to raise $5000. The school was our main sponsor and we also received funds from the soli we did in four villages.”

Raitekiteki added that their ex-scholars of the school from overseas also contributed to their fundraiser for the Fiji finals.

“We focused on Academics rather than sports last year and we also did not perform well in our zone last year,” he said.

“Our girls won 18 medals, seven gold, eight silver and three bronze and we came in second for the Maritime zone in the girls category.”

Raitekiteki said their male athletes came fourth in the zone with three Gold medals in the boys category.

“We want to thank God for his guidance, school administration for their support alongside the ex-scholars,” he said.
