Despite the tight football calendar, Rewa is doing its best to secure friendly matches in the lead-up.
The Delta Tigers has turned their focus to the much-anticipated 2025 BiC Fiji FACT tournament.
Speaking to the SUNsports yesterday, Rewa head coach, Rodicks Singh said preparations are well underway and the team is focused on making a strong statement in the tournament.
“We’ve begun our Fiji FACT preparations on Monday,” he said.
“We’ve parked the Extra Premier League bus for now and turned our focus on this tournament.
“There are no drastic tactical changes, but we are actively trying to implement some elements in our play, which fans may notice on game days.”
Despite the tight football calendar, Rewa is doing its best to secure friendly matches in the lead-up.
“It’s not easy arranging friendlies at this time, as all teams are in preparation mode and selective with who they play. It’s on our radar,” he said.
As for a training camp ahead of the competition, the coach says that would depend on how preparations go and the injury status of the squad.
One concern heading into the tournament is centre back, Gabriel Matanisiga, who is nursing a minor injury.
“It’s not a major injury, but something we’re keeping an eye on. It’s a concern around the lower side of his abdomen. Other than that, we’ll see how the squad shapes up. If any new or young players impress during training, they may earn a spot in the Fiji FACT squad,” Singh said.
With players coming off a stretch of tough weeks, including back-to-back EPL matches, workload management is a priority.
“We’ve been very conscious not to overwork anyone. The aim is to ensure the squad is fresh and ready come Fiji FACT.”
Singh said they are also working on their defence.
“We’ve conceded some soft goals recently, and as a coach, that’s an area I want tightened.
“The boys are in good spirits, riding on strong momentum from the EPL where we won seven out of our last eight matches. That form and confidence are something we’re carrying into this tournament.
“Our goal is simple- we want to win the Fiji FACT. It’s a title that’s eluded us in recent years and we believe we have what it takes to go all the way this time. We’re motivated, focused, and ready.”
