The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua will have to work on their breakdowns if they are to contain the Hurricanes in the second round of the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific clash this weekend.

The Drua forwards were simply outclassed by Brumbies openside Luke Reimer in the last quarter by making four turnovers and scoring two tries that resulted in their 36-32 win over the Drua.

This Saturday at McLean Park in Napier, the Drua faces a bigger challenge when they take on Hurricanes loose trio of Brad Shields, Peter Lakai and Du’Plessis Kirifi.

Hurricanes and All Blacks centre Billy Proctor is expected to play against the Fijians.

“I think the biggest focus is just making sure this team has some belief, its growing with them and making sure that on the road is something that we’re focused in getting the win,” said Drua head coach Glen Jackson.

“The Hurricanes are bit like the Brumbies around the breakdown like they got some really good loose forwards and centres that go hard.

“It is certainly an area that we’re focused on all year getting our breakdown in order.”

The Hurricanes blew away a 14-0 lead to go down 33-25 against the Crusaders in Christchurch, last Friday night.

Jackson said settling for a bonus point in their loss to Brumbies can be crucial to their Super Rugby campaign.

“We’re learning. A couple of discipline issues that we probably let go there but overall, we’re going to review on Monday as I think it’s a lead to a tough game against Hurricanes,” he said.

Jackson said debutants Ponipate Loganimasi and Isoa Tuwai played well.

He said flanker turned lock Vilive Miramira sprained his ankle while Iosefo Masi aggravated his hamstring injury.

“Masi was probably little bit unprepared at training but to get many as minutes in the game was great for him,” he said.

“I’m really proud of the boys especially getting 13 men on the first half is not ideal. “It shows the character especially when they came back and got the lead before halftime.”

Jackson acknowledged his players for their efforts in their first game after a 20-week off season training programme.

Captain Tevita Ikanivere said it was difficult to defend against a solid Brumbies team with 13 players.

“I’d like to thank the forwards for doing a very great job manning up around the edges because we were short on our backs,” he said.

“We’ll just go back to the drawing board and try to better next time.”

Meanwhile, defending Super Rugby champions Blues suffered a 25-14 loss to the Chiefs on Saturday night while Western Force came from behind to beat Moana Pasifika 45-44 in Perth, Australia.
