Former Flying Fijians and Bristol Bears centre Kalaveti Ravouvou continued his top form scoring two tries in their 54-24 win against Leicester yesterday, at Liecester.

The Bears set a club record for points scored in the first half of a premiership game as they racked up 40 points by the interval with six tries from six visits into their opponents’ 22.

In his only third premiership match this season, the Nadroumai, Nadroga man has bagged five tries so far and started in all three matches since Round 6.

This leaves him two tries behind his teammate Gabriel Ibitoye who is the premiership’s top try scorer after round 8.

The Bears ran in eight tries while Leicester scored five in yesterday’s match.

A clever break from Ravouvou in the 35th minute got them out of their own five-metre line and he was later able to connect with Ibitoye, who in turn marched them into Leicester territory. After this, the former Harlequins man threw a basketball offload to the on-chasing fullback Richard Lane, who then raced home for the score.

The 26-year-old hard-running style and break saw him dived over for a spectacular solo try, after breaking from their own 22 metre line to nail the scores; it is arguably the try of the season so far.

He scored his first try in the 19th minute while teammate and number eight scored in the 28th minute to lead 40-12 at half time.

Lam salutes

Bristol Bears head coach Pat Lam told BBC Bristol: “It was an excellent performance from all the guys. Putting 50 points over them at Welford Road is huge for us. It was certainly one of the best first-half displays we have had since I’ve been here.

“The performance looked like the way we have been training – with real confidence and belief. I was really pleased with the skill and execution showed in that first half. We were not on it so much in the second, but we are happy with the result.

“Now we have a short turnaround at home to Sale on Friday night. It’s important we continue trying to build on what we have done so far this season and improve even more. But the signs are very good, and we are heading in the right direction.”
