Fiji’s lightweight champion Mikaele Ravalaca will not fight in the Super Welterweight Title fight this Saturday at the Zeg Kings Boxing Promotion programme.
Promoter Naroon Buksh confirmed yesterday following their sponsorship announcement with LICI.
The bouts will see ten professional fight including two World Boxing Association (WBA) titles and about six exhibition fights.
Ravalaca was scheduled to fight John Ingram at the Vodafone Arena, Suva.
According to Buksh the Ra lad sustained injuries from a brawl; he shared photos of his injuries with the promoter.
“The same title fight will continue, we have given that to Ratu Rakuro,” he said.
“He sent me videos of his injury.”
Buksh indicated that boxer’s safety and health is paramount.
“Money is nothing; we can earn at any time a boxer’s life is precious. We don’t want to repeat what happened last year. He was willing to fight, I told him not to fight.”
Sydney-based Runqi Zhou arrives today; he will fight the WBA Oceania super bantamweight title fight against Junior Binnu Singh.
The weigh-in will be held at Ratu Sukuna Park, Suva on Friday from 12pm.
Exhibition fights will begin at 4:30pm while the professional fights will start at 6pm and tickets are on sale SportsWorld and also on Ticket mate.
Meanwhile, Buksh thanked LICI for coming on board.
“Staging a fight of this calibre is hard in terms of finance and logistics and being an individual company you have to fork your own money for the event; having LICI and other sponsors not only boost the finiances, it also eases the burden of financial costs.”
General manager LICI Fiji Pradeep Shanoy said boxing was not the only sport they’ve sponsored; they have also sponsored the Lami darts championship, football and rugby jerseys for various schools.
