The Fiji Meteorological Service has warned of wet and windy conditions across the country over the next few days as a trough of low pressure drifts south over the Fiji group.
In its latest weather bulletin issued at 5:30am today, the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi said the system is bringing cloud and rain, while an easterly wind flow continues to prevail over the country.
Easterly winds of up to 45 kilometres per hour are expected over the eastern parts of Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, the eastern half of Viti Levu — from Sigatoka through Navua up to Korovou and extending to Rakiraki — as well as the eastern half of Taveuni and Vanua Levu, including areas from Southern Bua through Savusavu to Buca Bay and Tunuloa.
The Yasawa, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups are also expected to experience strong winds and rough seas.
The forecast also warns of occasional rain, isolated thunderstorms, and heavy falls over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, the interior and eastern parts of Viti Levu, Kadavu, Lau, and Lomaiviti.
Other parts of the country can expect partly cloudy conditions with afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy falls possible.
The weather office has cautioned that persistent localised heavy rain may lead to flash flooding of low-lying areas and advised the public to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
