Probe on Haider’s Death Will Be Made Public, Parliament Told

Saukuru told Parliament that the three-member Board of Inquiry team has yet to complete their investigation.

The findings of the investigation on the death of featherweight boxer Ubayd Haider will be made public.

This was revealed by the Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru in Parliament yesterday.

He was replying to a question by Opposition MP Prem Chand whether the Boxing Commission of Fiji had failed to ensure that boxers were insured for the October 26 programme in Nadi.

Saukuru told Parliament that the three-member Board of Inquiry team has yet to complete their investigation.

“They are still left with the interviews to be done of people from overseas. Further to that I will also be making a ministerial statement on the subject at the appropriate time,” he said.

“Their report will be tabled to the public and in respect of what this young lad (Haider) has done for Fiji.

“We should respect of what is been done at the moment until we get to the bottom of the incident that night.”

Saukuru said he was not in a position to reveal more information.
