Prime Minister jets off to USA tomorrow – The Fiji Times

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has confirmed he will travel to the United States to attend the national presidential prayer breakfast.

The event is organised by a joint Congress and Senate committee and brings together US lawmakers, international leaders and other dignitaries for discussions centered on faith and governance.

“I’ve been honoured with a request to do the opening prayer,” Mr Rabuka said.

“Whether President Trump will attend in person or join virtually from his office, I do not know. But I’m looking forward to that.”

As part of his trip, Mr Rabuka also plans to meet members of the Fijian diaspora in California.
Asked if he would raise climate-related concerns, specifically the Paris Agreement, with President Trump, Mr Rabuka said no official discussions were planned.

“If I meet him, it’ll be just that – a meeting.

“Discussing those issues would require an official call, which we have not received clearance on.”

The national presidential prayer breakfast is an annual event that has been attended by US presidents and global leaders since its inception in 1953.
