PRC awards video producers

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Honiara on Tuesday, 5th August 2025 awarded six recipients of the ‘China Through my Lens Video’ Competition.

This competition focused on individuals’ experiences of China and highlighted the real-life impact of bilateral cooperation in areas such as; education, sports, healthcare infrastructure, and cultural exchange.

The winners’ work illustrated the human stories behind diplomatic relationships.

His Excellency Barrett Salato, the Solomon Islands High Commissioner to PRC congratulated the winners.

“I wish to offer my congratulations to the winner of the film competition. I am sure that your stories will inspire the Song Dynasty and encourage you to visit China in the future. Seeing is believing, and your work helps others see the real China beyond the headlines.”

The Chinese Ambassador to the Solomon Islands, Cai Weiming, shared similar sentiments: “Your vision and storytelling have shone brightly, capturing the moving moments of our cooperation and friendship between our two countries.

“These videos resonate deeply as they powerfully encapsulate the essence of people-to-people connections—students embarking on educational journeys, communities benefiting from new infrastructure, patients receiving healthcare, and athletes training in modern facilities.”

David Bogese, a renowned local artist known as Young Davie and one of the standout winners, expressed his motivation behind his video.

“I want to show a different part of China—one that is not often seen in the media. Through my lens, I saw a country that welcomed me, taught me, and inspired me, giving me the chance to share that story with others.”

His personal video provided a narrative of his experiences in China, challenging stereotypes and highlighting the warmth and opportunities he encountered.

Both ambassadors emphasized that the essence of diplomacy lies in human connection. The Mutual Peace Acceptance Agreement has facilitated smoother exchanges, resulting in a doubling of Chinese visitors to the Solomon Islands in the first quarter of 2025.
