Fiji Police Force’s Rokomoce Vakatalesau scores a try against Fiji Corrections Service during their inaugural Armed Native Constabulary (ANC) challenge at Nasova grounds, Suva on October 11

The Fiji Police Force (FPF) dedicated their inaugural Armed Native Constabulary (ANC) Bowl win to former officers who paved the way for them.

This was the comment of Police head coach Solomone Nute following their 45-31 win against the Fiji Corrections Service at Nasova grounds, Suva, yesterday.

The bowl was presented to the head of both forces by Turaga Na Vunivalu of Bau Ratu Epenisa Cakobau.

The match was a first between the two security forces marking FPF’ 150th Sesquicentennial Anniversary; it will be now an annual challenge.

The Blues side was dominant at their home ground with seasoned players including former Fijian Drua prop Timoci Sauvoli, Kini Douglas and Etonia Rokotuisawa, while the Corrections side included former sevens reps and Olympic gold medallist Josua Vakurinabili and Netani Koroisau.

“This is a milestone for us, especially coming for 150 years of service for the whole of Fiji,” Nute said.

“Corrections gave us a good run but Nasova is our ground so we fought nail by nail and tooth by tooth.

“This win is a special dedication to our former police officers who already gave their life- their family, children, grandchildren and for us we are serving now,” he added.

Escott Shield

Nute indicated that he would be watching today’s Escott Shield Challenge final between Police Blue and Fresh’et Navy before he makes his final selection for the FMF Ratu Sukuna Bowl Challenge.

“We won the Escott Shield two years in a row and this is the idea and our message to the boys that they can do it if they have the heart.

“We hope they will do well and they will win tomorrow.”

The Escott Shield final will be at Buckhurst Park One at 3pm. The Koroturaga final between Covenant Red and Nabua White will be at 1pm.

The admission is $7 for adults and $2 for children Under-12 years.
