Police horses allegedly injured by motorcycle on Gold Coast

A man allegedly rode a motorcycle directly into police horses at the Gold Coast, injuring the animals and a cop who was thrown from one.

The rider, on a Ducati, was stopped on Elkhorn Avenue in Surfers Paradise just after midnight on Saturday.

He allegedly accelerated away when approached by two policemen on horseback.

One officer was thrown to the ground, and both horses were injured.

A 40-year-old Southport man who was allegedly on the motorbike was taken into custody.

He was charged with riding under the influence, riding without due care and attention and unlawfully killing or injuring a police horse.

He will appear at Southport Magistrates Court next month.
