PM Rabuka moving into official Prime Minister’s residence – The Fiji Times

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has confirmed that he and his family have begun moving back into the official Prime Minister’s residence at 224 Ratu Sukuna Road, saying the relocation marks a return to a property that was purpose-built for the nation’s leader.

In a video message, Mr Rabuka said the move officially commenced yesterday and highlighted the history behind the residence.

“Today (yesterday) is also the first day of our moving houses, to 224 Ratu Sukuna Road,” he said.

“This was the official residence of the Prime Minister, purchased in the early 1990s. It is located next door to the current residence, and my family is excited to be moving back into a familiar environment.”

The Prime Minister explained that the current building he occupies is not intended for the head of government but instead belongs to the judiciary.

“This building here belongs rightfully to the Chief Justice, and 224 was especially bought for the Prime Minister to be the Prime Minister’s residence, as there was no residence at that time,” he said.
