PM praises church’s role in guiding communities, strengthening nation – Solomon Star News

Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele, MP, joined members of the Anglican Church of Melanesia and the people of Ysabel at a Special Thanksgiving Service at Saint Barnabas Cathedral in Honiara on Sunday.

The program is to celebrate Reverend Christopher Fihu as Bishop-elect of the Diocese of Ysabel.

On behalf of the Government, the Prime Minister extended warm congratulations and heartfelt blessings to Bishop-elect Fihu, his family, and the Diocese of Ysabel. ‘

The occasion was described as a time to give thanks to God for His enduring faithfulness and guidance.

Highlighting the Church’s continued contribution to Solomon Islands, the Prime Minister noted that it remains a moral pillar guiding communities, nurturing young people, and upholding the values that define the nation. 

He acknowledged the Church as a vital partner in fostering peace, harmony, and moral strength, and in advancing national development principles reflected in the GNUT Policy Statement. 

He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to working closely with faith leaders to strengthen unity, hope, and national resilience.

The service was held under the theme “Rooted in Gratitude, United in Purpose,” which emphasised the importance of gratitude, faith, and unity as foundations for a strong and resilient nation. 

On this theme, the Prime Minister said:

“As a nation, we must remain grateful for God’s blessings and steadfast in our faith. Gratitude keeps us grounded; unity keeps us strong.”

Bishop-elect Fihu, who will become the seventh Bishop of Ysabel, was commended for accepting this divine calling to serve with humility, courage, and love. 

His ministry is expected to provide both spiritual leadership and positive influence across communities.

Prime Minister Manele also emphasised the broader significance of the Church’s partnership with the Government, stating that collaboration with faith leaders is key to advancing peace, promoting moral values, and supporting national transformation.

Ahead of his consecration programme at Jejevo, Ysabel Province, on 1 and 2 November 2025, the Prime Minister offered his best wishes to Bishop-elect Fihu and the Diocese of Ysabel.

The Prime Minister encouraged congregants to renew their commitment to being a nation rooted in gratitude and united in purpose, reminding them that faith remains the anchor and unity the strength of the nation.
