Fiji Airways 7s men’s head coach Osea Kolinisau for the Perth leg of the HSBC SVNS series.
This was after his side’s impressive performance at the McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s in Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka over the weekend.
The national 7s team defeated Mc-Donald’s Mike Friday Boys’ Select 7s 29-14 in the cup final.
Speaking after the final, Kolinisau said he was impressed with the boys performance despite strong competition from local teams.
Lanky halfback Pilipo Bukayaro was named player of the final.
“A lot of my young boys got a lot of game-time during this tournament,” Kolinisau said.
“Jerry Matana and Sevuloni Mocen-acagi are injured and will not feature in the Perth leg,” he said.
“I told them this is the only way to learn. You’ve got to show us that you’ve got what it takes to go to Perth.”
Kolinisau said he was also impressed with the performance of rookie, Sakiusa Siqila who is named the 13th man for the Perth 7s tournament.
“He showed me that he got what it takes to be on the squad,” he said.
“Iowane Teba was the player of the tournament, very consistent throughout the game and he’s pushed his way back to the squad with this squad.”
Kolinisau said Teba showcased his class performance in the three-day tournament featuring the Mike Select 7s team.
“He was a class above in the way he was playing. I’m happy with the way he responded,” he said.
“There’s a lot of new talents and I’m excited about it especially the Seattle Barbarian’s winger Mosese Naura; he’s big, strong and really fast.”
Kolinisau said Naura will be included in camp after the team’s outing in Perth 7s tournament.
“I had a talk with him and wanted to know if he’s interested and what his plans are,” he said.
“I want to get him to camp and see what he’s got,” Kolinisau said.
“We want to build on our lead in the series points table and we want to stay ahead as well,” he said.
Kolinisau has named his 13-man lineup with the return of Rupeni Kabu who last represented Fiji at the Hong Kong 7s last year.
Fijiana 7s interim coach Timoci Volavola has also named his squad for the tournament.
Former Fijian Drua winger Adita Milinia has made her debut in national colours.
