There’s no pressure for Queen Victoria School (QVS) to defend the Vodafone Deans title at this year’s competition.
Captain Sailosi Taka made the comments yesterday during the official launch of the Deans and Weet-Bix Raluve competition at Gospel High School, Suva.
The Namuka, Nakelo, Tailevu native said they are taking one game at a time.
“We’re taking things slow. There’s not much pressure. We trust our process this year,” Taka said.
“The only challenge is balancing studies; most days we’re tired from training the we have to attend classes.
“We’re taking our own pace to defend our title.”
Taka was also part of the winning U18 side last year which was captained by national U20 rep Anare Tabakaucoro.
The school deputy head boy said he has lifted his preparation to another notch this year after being named skipper.
“My goal is to be contracted; I leave that God and His plans for me,” the centre said.
“As captain I have to lead by good example in every way.”
Asked on his thoughts on who’d be their toughest opponent this year, Taka said: “It will be last year’s U17 finalists MBHS (Marist Brothers High School) and RKS (Ratu Kadavulevu School), they’ll be the hardest team to beat.”
Round four of the zone competition will continue today.
