The FIJI Water Flying Fijians will not be paid any bonus if they win a match during the November tour.
This was confirmed by the Fiji Rugby Union interim board chairman Peter Mazey.
Mazey said one player made the request through the player’s welfares association for bonuses to be paid.
“We do not agree with it; the union supported this law enough is enough,” Mazey said.
“If they go into the Rugby World Cup or winning constantly – yes, we look at those.
“You know, we all have to live on what we earn and we can’t afford to keep doing this.
“The Rugby World Cup campaign was $11m that cost us and about a third of that was just to the players.
“So that’s why we think it’s fair and I’d like to think that, like, all of us, we play for the country, not for personal.”
FRU board member Jenny See-to added: “I just want to remind everyone that the bonuses paid out usually comes from Government. The union itself does not have money to pay for bonuses and it is with the generosity of the Government that bonuses are actually paid out.”
